Navco‘s engineering department is proactive over reactive!

Navco International develops solutions based on customer specifications for a wide variety of segments. (Passenger Cars, Commercial Vehicles, Industrial Equipment, Leisure Vehicles, Electrical Vehicles). We develop customized and fully integrated solutions in accordance with OEM standards to ensure that our solutions meet these strict requirements.

That is why we like you to meet our technical project leader Jian-Lei Tian who is responsible to connect the Engineering team with customer technical experts. 

During every stage of the innovation process the team members have their specific knowledge and input to accelerate and optimize the solution.

The direct contact with the project team at the customer ensures everyone is on the same page and speaks the same language. Especially when it comes to the technical part of every development it’s crucial to have engineering power to keep the project on track.

What is your expertise Jian-Lei Tian?

“I am graduated as mechatronics engineer and spent almost 10 years in automotive product development. I am familiar with automotive projects procedures and standards which is critical to guarantee the quality of our developments and experienced with multicultural environment which enables me the best communication bridge to bring East and West together. I have lived and worked for more than 10 years in the Automotive industry in The Netherlands”.

What is making the Navco approach unique on engineering?

“first of all,  Bringing the customer and our departments (Engineering, Quality and Sales) together as a united, effective team which is critical for custom-engineering projects.

An effective team that's aligned focuses their collaborative efforts on a common goal of reducing silos and serving customers faster. Each team member has the same goal and full context of the project. And with my expert field Navco also knows the philosophy of Asian partners. In this way, Navco irons out the mismatches between the end-users and the factories."

Main (technical) challenges within the customer base

Some customers are not fully 100% technical focused, which makes them difficult to explain their specific needs or to supply the necessary information in accurate technical language. This slows down the process of providing the best solutions within the desired time frame. But Navco not only want to contribute by anticipating the needs of the customer, but also investigates proactively potential needs in the market.

What is your outlook for the upcoming years from a technical/engineering perspective?

Jian-Lei Tian: “Due to the supply chain crisis, Navco is taking on more responsibilities to help customers solve high-level challenges beyond our regular experience. This requires our technical team to be more capable and to grow with customer needs.”

FROM NAVCO PERSPECTIVE

Since 2020, major automakers have faced a global shortage of critical electronic components, as demand is high and the supply capacity is tight. This is a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, which has forced automakers to shut down or slow down production in the past years and to be continued far into 2022. This bottleneck in the supply chain could hurt the automotive industry further as carmakers risks missing out on the demand uplift due to their assembly lines slowing down.

In early 2021 we have seen Car Importers reporting that they are having to step outside the regular process to source the components they require and contacted Navco directly for creating a short term professional solution.

Our working method of a new project

Pre-Development

Navco works with our customer to choose the best path from the start.
It starts with a customer requirements analysis, followed by a breakdown of the requirements towards a technical specification. We select out the most critical specification first to search initial capable solutions.

Proof of Concept

Every project needs a steady foundation to build upon. We support our customers to past the largest risks and answer essential questions as quickly as possible.

After several Draft solutions designed in collaboration with our co-partners, we will conduct the technical green light procedure that examines factory`s proposal in details. By several discussion rounds, we select the best solutions to review with our customer.

After collecting our customer feedback this process may go back and forward multiple times. Once both parties achieve an agreement on the solution both technically and commercially, an official project kick-off is organized.

Further development will be guided by time schedule strictly, including design review, design validation, production preparation and master sample confirmation before mass production. Now we come to a stage upon which to finish your product.
